The park recommends you descend from the Queens end of the trail and come up the Navajo side... Basically the Queens end is a slow decent to the bottom. The Navajo loop is closed 1/2 way thru but you can connect to other trails such as the Queens' Garden Loop which has a very gentle trail up.
