We only had half a day in the park and did this hike. Bryce is like you are on another planet and this hike gives you that experience. It is not too hard but I did have to stop and catch my breath many times on the way back up. Very unique and a highlight of our trip out west.... More

If you have time for only one hike, this is the one. We did it in the recommended direction - down the Queen's Garden and up the Navajo. I really enjoyed it. The descent into the canyon is fantastic. Complete with tunnels. The climb back out is unreal with switchbacks. We took our two kids (9 and 11) and they... More

While you can see the bizarre hoodoos of Bryce Canyon from the rim, if you have a reasonable level of fitness and mobility, you MUST hike this trail! Be sure you have plenty of camera memory available. Even more stunning up close, the hoodoos resemble castles, animals, statues, and much more. If you take 5 steps the perspective changes and... This is a great hike! However, be aware at the current time (2013) the Wall Street section of the Navajo Loop is closed, which was a huge disappointment, and lead us to make the decision to turn around and go back the way we came down (via the Queens Garden Trail). If in fit condition, however I would highly recommend... More

We hike quite a lot -- this walk is like no other. We took our seven year old, and he had no problem with the loop. We started with the Navajo trail going down and came up the Queens Garden trail, and we started relatively early in the morning when the light was spectacular. The trail decends about 700 feet,... I had my doubts, with the altitude, my age (70) and 2 artificial knees. But with my partner's encouragement and help of 2 hiking sticks, it was quite do-able. It's very well maintained (as are all the trails at Bryce) and it enables one to descend into the canyon itself to fully appreciate its beauty. Unlike many hikes, one descends... More

This can be a bit of a slog on the return (we started with Navajo and then returned by Queen's garden which we think is better despite guide book advice). You have be reasonably fit because the switchbacks on the return will get you, but it's a great trail and you gain a whole new perspective from being down in... More

I think this might help a lot of older folks.....my wife and I did this hike yesterday, after a few months of planning .....I am 65, and in reasonably good shape; I am not overweight, and have no orthopedic problems to speak of; I live on the Texas Gulf Coast....i.e. --- we are at sea level, and the terrain is... The park recommends you descend from the Queens end of the trail and come up the Navajo side... Basically the Queens end is a slow decent to the bottom. But coming up the Navajo side is steep switch backs. I'd suggest going down the Navajo switch backs and gradually coming back up the other side. Thats what we did and... More

The Navajo loop is closed 1/2 way thru but you can connect to other trails such as the Queens' Garden Loop which has a very gentle trail up. Be warned tho ... you're still at high elevations and the trail up is ... all up! Can be strenuous. But WELL worth it ... you get such different views when you're... More
