The Main Park Road is a scenic 38 mile drive from Coe to Flamingo Visitor Center. At the end of the scenic drive the Flamingo area generously offers a variety of activities to the travelers. The most interesting amongst them is wildlife watching from the visitor center breezeway. A number of gators and endangered crocs laze around the vicinity of... More

I was there in April 2013 and the visitor center looks very much abandoned. I hear from my friend who lives in FL that it's been going through a remodeling for a while. The drive to get to Flamingo was more interesting than actually getting there; we were able to do some of the trails. Don't expect too much besides... More

Flamingo offers a couple of attractions: boat tours of the islands and kayak rentals plus camping on the point. This is the gateway to 10 thousand islands and is just beautiful. The evening offer quiet, dark ( great for telescopes) and wind. there are lots of birds and trails leading to waterways. there is a small supply station and a... More

It is a long drive from entrance to Flamingo (35 miles). However if you have the time it is good to drive the whole way as it allows you to experience all the habitat zones of the park. There are boat rides and canoe and kayak rentals at Flamingo as well as great views of Florida Bay. However, the real... More

Flamingo is about 50 minutes from Royal Palm and is a nice ride out to the Southern tip of mainland Florida. There's a nice marina and plenty of water and islands to explore. The campground close by is very basic, and really nothing special. Some nice hiking trails and lots of birds. We did not see many gators, crocs, turtles,... More

Again, another view of the Everglades, learn about mangroves and the world's deadliest tree, see crocodiles, and birds and huge lakes...........wonderful experience. You can see the Atlantic Ocean, find out what brackish water is, or an estuary, meet folks from all over the world.

You can see lot of birds and gators on the way to Flamingo near the ponds. The Anhinga Trail at Royal Palm Visitors center is a must see. We took the pontoon boat ride of the bay at Flamingo visitor center. It was a bit boring as we got to see only birds and we wanted to see crocodiles/manatees/dolphins. The... More

Flamingo offers a visitors center and a Marina. At the marina you can buy a seat on a pontoon boat for a tour of the Everglades that lasts about 1.5 hours. You can also buy cold sandwiches and heat them in the microwave, and many choices for snacks. There is the hard to find Buttonwood Cafe which is located on... More

Long drive to the coast, then I wished I had a kayak or canoe. We did see crocodiles! That was really cool. And if we had time to camp, it would have been great to sleep out with the sounds of the water and wildlife all around.

If you're planning on staying here you need to plan on renting/bringing some type of canoe or kayak or boat. That's when this is a great place to stay. The one girl at the store was real rude but other than that everyone else was awesome. BYOB....a 6 pack is 16.00$ there! Also if you're camping bring your own food...they... More
