Schedule would not allow for the ranger tour which offers just a trip down and a boat ride back. The uphill is a bit of a drag so make sure you have enough water. Petroglyphs are well worth it as are the ruins from some of the sugar plantations along the way.

Had a very nice time here.. Way less crowded then Trunk and Cinnamon. Had the beach to ourselves here one morning for almost an hour and that is almost unheard of during spring break! Not a bad snorkel here over by the rocky area.

The amount of birds were impressive, but the ruins were just alright, and it could have used more view points.

This was a quick sidetrip. We've been to St. John 5 times and never before took this hike. It is very easy on a level boardwalk through the mangroves. You have a few opportunities to look out over the pond with a lot of birding opportunities, herons, etc. Nice, peaceful setting, andthe trail ends up on Francis Bay beach with great... More

We walked the trail, with the kids, to the beach in the late afternoon. The ruins along the trail were beautiful, and when we got to the beach, we were the only ones as far as the eye can see. Which is pretty far, because Frances and Maho Bays run together. This is definitely worth the hike. We went snorkeling... More

A great way to enjoy nature on St John. An easy walk along a pond (Partial board walk) where you can enjoy the local bird life. Winter months will treat you with visiting birds but they are not always the same. The beach is close by so you can enjoy the beautiful water along with some bird watching. The pond... More

The Francis Bay Trail is easy and not to long. Some ruins along the way. Long sand beach, to the left, rocky beach with the best snorkeling to the right. Current coming back so use your best judgement how far you want to go. Lots of fish right along the shore. Rumors of lots of sea turtles but we did... More

Take bug spray, and plan on a swim at adjacent Francis Bay beach after your walk. PArking at both areas. Good snorkeling farther out along east (right) edge of Francis Bay.

Never forget the day I swam with a manta ray, roughly 7 feet across. Nice calm beach, good place for afternoon hang out if bugs aren't too bad.

Easy trail. Great walk beautiful sights to see. A must see for anyone on vacation. When the trail meets the beach there is a wheel chair accessible boardwalk which is very thoughtful
