the museum is interesting for adults but not for children age 7 and below that is what we travel with!! But the cafe there is amazing...go for the drop scones.....the tomato soup...the coffee and also the welcoming of the staff....the view and then walk it off on Ballydonegan beach...value for money....

Great place to visit on a rainy afternoon. Well laid out museum giving the visitor a picture of what copper mining meant to this fairly remote area. Not a great deal of artefacts .. More a historical pictograph but I hear that one of the mines may be open for viewing sometime soon. As if you needed another reason to... More

A small but well presented museum interpreting the mining history of Allihies (and a great café too!). The museum helps visitors to understand the area which was once very different from the pretty village it is today. A major advantage is that the mine shafts and engine houses can be seen on the hillside and there is are good walking... More

Had lunch here recently and it was excellent and good value. This more than a place to stop for coffee although the coffee and selection of cakes made by the owner are mouthwatering. The cafe also has great seafood, musses, crab sandwiches, fish soup and smoked salmon. Nice outside area also with great views. Wi fi is also available. There... More

Did not visit the museum but we really enjoyed good coffee and lovely scones in the cafe. The chocolate cake was delicious too. Highly recommended.

There Beara peninsula (or Ring of Beara) is, to my mind, far more interesting than the other 'ring'. For a start it is more rugged and secondly its a lot quiter, there's no coaches and its not commercialised in any way. In places its like being in a time warp - simply wonderful. Allihies as a village is so very... More

Having never spent time in West Cork before I got the opportunity to spend one week there this Summer friends of mine were renting one of the self catering houses and had an extra room. The house was great having just been built and was extremely close to the village near the old copper mines. The house contained everything we... More
