This is fantastic look back at Canada's naval history. The Corvette was instrumental in winning the Battle of the North Atlantic with it's awesome submarine hunting capabilities!

The Sackville provides a fascinating look at the fleet of Corvettes which were the workhorse of the WWII convoys which formed in Bedford Basin, at the back of Halifax Harbour, and sailed across the North Atlantic to support the war effort in Britain and Russia.
The Sackville is a great way to appreciate what many sailors experienced. You are able to move all over the ship; signs and audio displays add to the interest. Note that some of the spaces are quite small and the ladders are steep; don't wear a dress :)
My sons used to like exploring this when they were young. They had no concept of the historical relevance. The adults who went there often had relatives who had served on such ships. It is a great piece of history that has been preserved. It is docked beside the Museum of the Atlantic in the summer months.
When I saw that the intinerary of my Eastern Seaboard cruise in 2012, included Halifax, I knew what my ambition was. A quick visit to the maritime musuem and then straight onto the Sackville, It was an absolutely amazing expereince for me. The ship was ion beautiful condition and the crew/curators were very friendly. My partner stayed on the quayside...

The last WWII vintage corvette to be decommissioned, the "Sackville" should be toured, enjoyed and respected. Such a little ship to be out in the Atlantic, defending the convoys. Just be thankful!!!!
outside the maritime museum of the atlantic and well worth checking out our maritime history, some very helpfull staff and its moored up on the boardwalk so great views of the harbour etc
My dad crossed the north atlantic 36 times in 3 different corvettes, and to see how small these ships were, especially after getting off a 900 ft. cruise ship was amazing. It was very touching for me to see what my dad and the war vets did to make this country what it is. This was a Canadian made ship and...
