The island is basically unpopulated now and has gone back to a more natural environment. Can be difficult to get there as there is not a regular ferry you'd have to check with one of the boating companies on the waterfront. Bring a picnic, sun screen and something to drink.

Unique Attraction close to the harbour, certainly worth the boat ride out there. We enoyed hiking around the Island and up to the fort. There is a real rugged, untouched atmosphere to the Island, which felt like a trip back in history.

If you like nature mixed with a bit of history and exploring independently then this makes an excellent trail and the ferry man does give interesting information about various aspects of the island. Deer and dragonflies sighted.
