It is load and go so call ahead 902-448-4982. We had a map and hit the trails. This is a wonderful way to spend... More

The island is basically unpopulated now and has gone back to a more natural environment. Can be difficult to get there as there is not a regular ferry you'd have to check with one of the boating companies on the waterfront. Bring a picnic, sun screen and something to drink.

This quiet island might have you planning your escape from your own busy life! Tranquil and beautiful hiking trails run throughout the island. There are a few homes scattered around but most do not appear to be used year round. Explore a bit of history at one of the few forts on the island or kick back and enjoy a... More

Best place to tour and McNab's Island Ferry is the best to get there. Michael will even give you a bit of a tour.

I love this place more than I can begin to explain. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, social media, stress, etc.... Call Captain Redbeard and take a day trip to McNab's! Make sure to pack a lunch... there really is nothing to do besides explore the forts and walk the trails and... More

McNabs Island is a great way to go for a rustic nature adventure right in the city of Halifax. Take a day trip or camp overnight. Google McNabs Island Ferry for the ferry service info. The boat takes you over from Eastern Passage wharf. They also offer tours. If you are more adventurous you can sea kayak over (I have... More

Hailed our way over on a little motor boat in the sunshine with Captain Red Beard!! We spent the entire day walking through lovely trails, we had the island to ourselves. An owl graced us with it's presence in a nearby tree! Has a great view of Halifax from either the old forts and military lookouts (which are great to... More

We liked the unpopulated feel, the beach, and the beachcombing and trails. Alot more could be done to spruce up this island for tourists. Have a couple of food booths during summer months, fix up the wharfs, clean up all around the periphery of the island, and give regular tours of the fort down at the end, or ecotours along... More

Unique Attraction close to the harbour, certainly worth the boat ride out there. We enoyed hiking around the Island and up to the fort. There is a real rugged, untouched atmosphere to the Island, which felt like a trip back in history.

If you like nature mixed with a bit of history and exploring independently then this makes an excellent trail and the ferry man does give interesting information about various aspects of the island. Deer and dragonflies sighted.
