The entire trek was beautiful. The smell of the foliage is incomparable. See it. Do it. Experience it.

What a pleasant surprise. You will not be disappointed and this is a must see if you are in the area. We went on a day when the houses were all closed, but still enjoyed it. Check to see when houses are open. The area is extremely well kept with beautiful gardens. Everything was in bloom when we were there....

Many buildings now set up with interesting displays and information about who would have used it. A lot to see even if you don't do the house tour.
I came on a Monday and at first was disappointed that the houses were all closed. But they've done a wonderful job of arranging screened or glass windows that you can look through, many with tableaux of lif at that time, with informative signs and sometimes sound effects. You won't find this place mentioned in any of the tourist books but it is SO worth visiting! Free parking, and a beautiful location - you can spend several hours here touring the grounds, the houses and the museum. AND there's beach access - beautiful quiet sandy beach, as well as picnic areas. DO go!
Although the houses were not open for viewing when we visited, we still enjoyed the walk among the properties and along the lake. The signs gave quite a bit of information about the development of the area as well as the lifestyles of these wealthy residents. Spending time by the water and on the sandy beach was quite pleasant. Although...

The scenery...

Near the Valhalla area and Camp Richardson, it is one of the main historical areas of South Lake Tahoe. It is a nice area to visit.
