Arnos Vale cemetery is an oasis in a bustling city. It has some spectacular grave stones some dating back 200 plus years all set in what have been formal gardens. The gardens need a little attention but don't distract from the main area of interest Bristol's social history. Should you need rest or refreshment there's a lovely little café in... More

Beautiful to see all of the attention to detail that modern things seem to lack, love the stunning headstones from aaaaages ago!

Great place for little a walk. Lovely friendly good value cafe. Mainly outside, so best on a sunny day! Definitely a family favourite. Lots of little pathways to explore. A bit hilly if you tire easily or are not steady on your feet but there is also a manicured flat area to walk round.

Have wanted to visit this place for some years & finally made the trip. I was not disappointed. Initially the place looks very cultivated and cared for, but five minutes walk takes you into the woods where thousands of graves lie within the undergrowth. Stones have toppled, urns fallen. Nature has tried to reclaim. The history of Bristol's mighty and... More

I must add to other raves I've seen about this beautiful 45-acre hillside cemetery and park. Over a three-day stay in Bristol, I visited three times. It is a great place to walk and to explore. How you go about exploring depends on your adventurousness. There are a few main, paved routes wide enough to accommodate an occasional car and... More

Interesting even though it sounds a bit morbid. The two lodges on the Bath Road have a little bit of a history behind the place. Great place to just wander and take time to read about people and places that are often long gone. Try the cafe in the middle of the Cemetery. Brilliant cakes, cheerful chap at the tll,... More

Went there as part of a university trip. You don't normally find yourself at a cemetery for the purpose of an attraction. The grounds are vast and good for walkers. The architecture of the gravestones and buildings was amazing as was the variety. I liked the WWI memorial in particular. There is a cafe and exhibitions so apart from it... More

I took my children there this year and we went on a walk around the cemetary and the areas surrounding it. It was so gorgous. There were trees to climb, grass to play on and to picnic. We stayed out for hours. They have a dedicated building for a cafe and a workshop area within the cemetery as well which... More

There is a good reason why, at the time of this review, a cemetery is ranked in the top 10 list of things to do in Bristol. Arnos Vale is simply a special place, whether you have an interest in local history, architecture, wildlife, or are just looking for a peaceful place to walk. I am a fan of historic... More
