This should be a major attraction. However, you are asked to book in advance [so no turning up on the day as we tried]. The house is interesting, a personal record of Edward Heath's life interests. However, as he spent more time being nursed at the end of his life, the endowments he intended to keep his house as a... More

We loved the homely atmosphere and the enthusiastic guide. A pity we couldn't view upstairs. So sad that it may be sold and the wonderful collection split up and sold.

Arundells was an excellent place to visit and was really interesting to see where Edward Heath lived. We went there the very last weekend before it closed for good - due to financial implications.

The trustees have got they wanted and it has now been shut, so they can sell it off. Apparently it is running at a loss, even though it is run by volunteers. Just like that after a year without warning ,when The Friends of Arundells were given 3 years to make a go of it.

Fabulous staff gave me a tremendous welcome, followed by a truly informative and interesting tour. Sir Ed's life was so very interesting and varied and his home is quite beautiful, let us hope they win their fight to keep this lovely home open for us all to share.

Sir Edward Heath was unusual in politics - a man with what Denis Healey called "a hinterland", a range of interests outside politics. His accomplishments as a musician (organist, pianist, conductor of some of the world's great orchestras), trophy-winning yachtsman and collector of art and artefacts as well as his political life are all superbly represented in his home. And... More

There is not a lot to see here but what there is is in superb taste. Heath was a Grammer school homosexual so his taste was unencombered by public school or female influences. Also momentoes of his music and sailing career - a much under-rated man. It is very popular so you need to book. But despite its popularity it... More

Arundells is a fascinating and beautiful house and garden. Appropriately supported and marketed, it could become a very popular part of the Salisbury tourist scene, but sadly certain people are determined to sell it off! The 'Friends of Arundells' are to be commended for their tireless campaign to keep it open.

I took my mother here for a visit and we both thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The guide knew so much detail and was very entertaining. The house is wonderful, not huge, but still packed full of interesting items collected over the years. The hand painted Chinese wallpaper is delightful. The gardens are calm and tranquil and go down to the... More

If politicians generally turn you off, touring this house is a must. The house and gardens are quite beautiful but more than that, here was a man who had many different interests and friends from across the political spectrum. If some wealthy Tory party benefactor/s doesn't come forward to ensure the future of the house it will be a crime... More
