The driver was a member of this community and knew about the history, geography, literature and legends of this troubled region. no bias, just told it how it is. The murals are awesome and provide food for thought.

The heartland of Ulster...
Great for a tour, Great for lunch and great for the experience...
What i would say, especially on a sat, if you have time, walk up one side of the road, taking in the sights and history, do a little shopping and even nip into one of their many cafes for good oul fashioned home made...

This area is worth a visit based on the history and the murals. Not a place to spend an afternoon in or anything, but worth a walk or drive.
Best road in Belfast. The people are very friendly and there are some colourful murals which should be seen by all. Good shopping area with loads of independent shops and stores.
some nice murals capturing the feelings of the community in this loyalist heartland. place is worth a visit most locals drive or walk thorugh it and never notice the murals etc but to a visiting tourist well worth a bus tour through the area just to say you been here.
A free activity to pass time by - a must see based on recent history & respect for the lives that were lost. It's a 5 minute walk from the city, and the road itself is approx 2 miles long so a lovely long walk if u want to get some fresh air. Muriels are spread out, there are sign...

Went by black taxis to visit Shankill Rd,the driver gave us an insight into what it was like in the past and in the present. It opened my eyes to the fact unrest still excisits and that the locals dont see an end to the unrest. I found it so interesting and wanted to know more
This visit really brought home the origins and continuing issues of divided Belfast. It is a great contrast to the elegance of some other quarters of the city.
The history of the area can be seen in the murals on the walls. There are some quite harsh and confronting pictures that display deep anger. I wonder what the residents think when all these tourists arrive to take pictures of their street and houses. Having said that, one resident greeted me with a friendly "hello" as I walked around.
Great bus tour, reasonably priced. Lots to see and commentary information on the past events was great.
