We have been in Scotland for 8 days and I have to say that this castle ruin is the most breathtaking of all the sites we have seen thus far. If you see only one castle ruin in Scotland, this should be the one! It was worth braving the wind.

A castle perfectly tailored to its dramatic location, on a near-island reached across a rocky isthmus. It is a glorious jumble of buildings rich in astonishing history. What a beautiful yet historic experience. The guidebook was very informative and worth the £3.50 and the entry fee goes to the upkeep and maintenance of the castle.

This is a worthwhile castle to stop and view from the walkway - admission is not really required to appreciate its beauty and natural defences.

Dunnottar Castle is a lovely place to visit, it has amazing views, nature and history. It's only £5 entrance fee but there are plenty of picture opportunities from outside the castle or from the beach if you didn't want to go in. this is a nice place to see sunset. there are two spots, one spot where you can see the castle from far (just next to it), and one inside the castle. the views are really good. you do have to pay to go in, but worth it to take a look inside. nice place for some good photos to be... More

The day went from cool and misty to sunny and warm while we visited this castle high on a cliff above the North Sea. It's a long walk down, then up, but well worth it for the castle ruins and the views.
