A fascinating insight into Scottish history, with unhurried tours (though lots of steps). Unstuffy and clearly the family home of sensible people with a unique contribution to British history.

Highland cattle glower at you as you enter the car park. Walks beside river to walled garden which is a massive work in progress.(There is a good fountain)
Guided tour to house was just right. Enough information but not too much.Fascinating contrasts between the old original fortified hall and the later additions. Older folk who remember The Queen Mother and...

We visited a number of historic houses during a two week holiday in Scotland - Glamis was by a margin the best. We were fortunate enough to get a personal tour. The coach parties had left and the Castle was quiet. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and she brought the history of the Castle to life. Unlike some other historic...

Glamis is kept very much as it must have been when it was the family home of the Bowes Lyons and it has an intimate feel which is almost as if they had just stepped out of the door. It is a charming and revealing place to visit with nice spaces in the grounds for picnics.
