A fascinating insight into Scottish history, with unhurried tours (though lots of steps). Unstuffy and clearly the family home of sensible people with a unique contribution to British history. More

Highland cattle glower at you as you enter the car park. Walks beside river to walled garden which is a massive work in progress.(There is a good fountain) Guided tour to house was just right. Enough information but not too much.Fascinating contrasts between the old original fortified hall and the later additions. Older folk who remember The Queen Mother and... More

We visited a number of historic houses during a two week holiday in Scotland - Glamis was by a margin the best. We were fortunate enough to get a personal tour. The coach parties had left and the Castle was quiet. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and she brought the history of the Castle to life. Unlike some other historic... More

My father, my partner from New Zealand and I visited Glamis Castle in May 2012 and took the guided tour. It was thoroughly enjoyable, informative and enriching. The lady who took us through was American (I'm sorry I can't remember her name). She was enthusiastic, well informed, encouraged questions and permitted plenty of time at the end of each section... Now if you want the best castle experience in Scotland then this might just be the one! The tour is very informative and the guides really know their subject matter. The history that you actually walk through and can feel and touch is amazing, simply brilliant. It's not often that you get the chance to walk through a full on... More

A rare treat awaits as you visit this impressive castle that was the birthplace and early home of Elizabeth Bowes Lyons, the mother of Queen Elizabeth II. The castle is remarkably well kept and the tour is very good. The gift shop contains many items but none as interesting as the Orange Marmalade. Dundee, a short trip down the road,... More

Glamis is kept very much as it must have been when it was the family home of the Bowes Lyons and it has an intimate feel which is almost as if they had just stepped out of the door. It is a charming and revealing place to visit with nice spaces in the grounds for picnics. More
