I could have spent hours looking round Mellerstain House and grounds. The main rooms have beautiful Robert Adam ceilings and the library is a fine example of his work, yet the place has a homely feel. Set in the Scottish Borders countryside, it is well worth a visit and as there are four floors on view there is plenty to... More

Mellerstain House is the most beautiful stately home we have seen in Scotland (and we have been there four times by now). With its clear and straightforward architecture, the well preserved, cautiously furnished interiors (with such strange things as a bathroom in the farthest corner in the basement) and the absolutely beautiful grounds is beats Abbotsford and even Paxton House... More
