That big metal "spike in the sky" may distract attention in O'Connell Street, but "The GPO" as all Dubliners call it is surely Ireland's most famous building - we think so, anyway ! What can we say about it ? Well, the imposing structure of Portland stone & mountain granite was built for the (then) considerable sum of £50,000 in... More

Every time I enter the GPO, I am stepping back into history and the terrible sacrifice that the symbolic defenders made to declare the unrelenting desire of the Irish people to be fully independent again. You can nearly feel the presence and desperation of those who made their symbolic defence of it in order to give hope of freedom to... More

The GPO is an iconic building both for it's role in Irish history and it's spectacular architecture. I visited it specifically to see the Irish Republic Declaration that was made here in the 1916 Easter Rising. To me this is where the Republic of Ireland began. The sight of the building today with the tri coloured flag flying is always... More

The building is on a historical location. Inside you see a beautiful interior. There is a Post Museum where you have to pay an entrance fee. Next to it you have a chance to buy some stamps. The selection is huge and if you collect stamps you will love it! Look for the ones with the Titanic on it :)

Visited this post office in the last few days primarily to learn about its role in the 1916 uprising and was not disappointed. However there is so much more to this beautiful building. The museum is so worth the 2 Euro entrance, there is a short history of the development of the postal service in Ireland but the real gen... More

Still used as the main mail office in Dublin & also the head quarters. Wouldnt be the first place to spring to mind in Dublin to visit but there is some interesting history linked to it.

Although most prominent for its part in the Easter Uprising of 1916 there is more to the museum than that, from a brief history of stamps through to the development of Postal services in Ireland and some AV presentations a worthwhile visit

This is a spectacular building on O' Connell street. I would not recommend heading in here to do any postal jobs as it can get very busy but its lovely to head in a have a good look around
