We visited this Abbey today based on my granddaughter's request since she had written two papers on this during college. It is definitely a hidden treasure with outstanding opportunities for taking beautiful pictures. Admission is free, the grounds are beautiful to walk through and it's a very peaceful place. We spent probably 1 1/2 - 2 hrs there. I highly... More

Very interesting history, and beautiful location. There was no entrance fee charged on the day we visited as the recent fire left some damage which was being repaired. The walled gardens were beautiful and well worth the visit.

Tintern Abbey in Wexford County was fairly easy to find and lovely. The building was partly in ruins but really nice. They are working on restoring parts of it. The views of it from the bridge were great. We walked around the property quite a bit and it was like stepping into another time. I would definitely recommend making a... More

we did expect the abbey facilities to be ope as it was bank holiday so were disappointed to find it locked shut. However, we were able, instead, to walk to the walled garden which is being renovated. Very pleasant.

Beautiful place with woodland walks, walled garden under restoration and the ruins of the actual abbey. Sadly, as the lady working at the walled gardens explained, the coffee shop and tours of the abbey were suspended due to a burglary and fire. Hopefully this will be reinstated for the summer season as I would say it would add to this... More

This is a nicely preserved and well restored ruin of a monastery. The tour is good and you will get an appreciation of Tintern and its place in history.

Myth is perhaps the wrong word - this is real history, and an amazing story of how the abbey came to be named after its famous counterpart in the Forest of Dean in Wales. If you don't know the story, it's worth looking it up. But it is certainly a retreat, hidden away as it is in a shallow valley.... More

Visited the Colclough walled garden again last weekend. We had been there just after work had started on clearing it and the difference is breathtaking. It's a huge walled area based on an original layout from the 1830s. We were met by Barbara Kelly at the entrance who gave us a fascinating update on what has been going on. The... More

I paid my first visit to the walled garden which has been opened earlier this yerar by a group of volunteers who have put tremendous work into this fantastic garden. It must be 2-3 acres in size divided into 2 gardens with a stream running through the middle of it. the borders are covered in flowers and many fruit trees... More

We have enjoyed lovely walks there with the kids and the visitor centre is small but very good, easy to incorporate it into a trip around the Hook peninsula.
