Went here on a location scout for a short film I was making (clang) and met some really interesting ex police officers who run this establishment. The old cells here are fantastic and very atmospheric and there is a mock court that is exceptional. With the curators knowledge and the building and its treasures this is a real fun outing....

If you're staying in Manchester you would be a fool to not visit this place - you only need to set aside 2 hours, and there's plenty of fascinating things to see. The museum shows how the police has evolved over time, starting from the 19th century, with timeline displays of uniforms, helmets, handcuffs and much more.

This is a former police station and they've revamped it to a very exciting museum. Old vehicles and costumes, old interiors as well many photographs are taking you way back in the time. It's very easy to walk to as they're in the city centre
Much more fun than I expected. Very enjoyable 90 minutes, the cells and the original magistrates' courtroom, moved here from Denton, are the highlights for me. The free iPhone App is also a great guide to the museum. Download it from iTunes before you go.
Had a great day.spent a couple of hours looking round the original police station on Newton street in Manchester city centre. Great exhibits, from transport to police uniforms through the ages, the original Victorian cells. To an original courthouse. Staff very informative and helpful. Would definitely recommend a visit.
Lots of exhibits old and not so old, Cells and Charge Office/Room a real look into the past. Many Old Timers "Retired Bobbies" giving their slant on Policing in bye gone years. As a retired officer myself I was filled with the feeling of nostalgia and my grandchildren thought that I was some kind of hero
Set in an old police station this is a great little free museum. Displays of police motorbikes, uniforms and truncheons and handcuffs through the years and an excellent crime room showing an old Detective Sergeants desk straight out of life on mars !! There is also the old custody suite and cells and a court room upstairs . Excellent for...

As other posters have commented, it is staffed with very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers, many of whom are ex police. Of particular interest were the police cells and courtroom, where the volunteers (in Victorian Police costumes) would describe what would happen if you were...
