The Court, a large number of men and women of letters and European artists, stayed here on invitation from the sovereigns, one example being Leonardo da Vinci who lies here in peace in the Château’s Chapel. This place of high renown in the History of France boasts an exceptional collection of Gothic and Renaissance furniture illustrating the artistic finery of the first French Renaissance. After a visit of the Royal House and the impressive Cavalry Towers, the walk continues in the magnificent panoramic gardens overlooking the Loire river. « less

Nice to visit the chateau, great views of the city and to view da Vinci's burial site. Once you are finished with your tour, there is a nice wine tasting room in which to taste and buy wine. No charge for tasting and prices are reasonable.

Make sure you pay for the audio tour and that you go first thing in the morning before the bus tours arrive. The audio tour gives you the full story, even including the beautiful gardens.

Fortunately we came here on a beautiful day, and it was the first Chateau in the Loire that we had viewed. Overall, definitely worth the visit. The 24 page guide book is great and gives more than adequate information without the bothering with the audio guide (4 Euro extra on top of 10.50 euro entry). The views from various locations... We won't bother our fellow members of the TripAdvisor community with repeating the historical facts relevant to the centuries-long history of the castle; after all, one can easily find them in any guide book or on the Web. The chateau offers a comprehensive and exciting glimpse into both the history of the Kings of France and the later period of... More

Interesting mix of chateau, gardens and history (well explained). More there to see/learn than we were expecting. Not as beautiful as some, nor stunning gardens, but a good mix

Amboise Chateau was home to the french kings like Louis the 9th, Henry the 2nd. Louise-Philippe. There are antique wood furniture, some paintings and wall tapestries. The music room has some walking on the guards towers gives you a great view of the town and the river. Don't miss the St. Hubert Chapel where you will see Leonardo da Vinci's... More

The history is amazing and has been well kept and preserved for us to see. The grounds are lovely and the chateau provides good opportunity for views across the town.

We visited the Chateau and the highlight of the trip was the quaint chapel that included the tomb of Leonardo da Vinci.

The Chateaux at Amboise is absolutely stunning. Yes, I know....seen one Chateaux, you've seen them all....but this is simply lovely and exceedingly well maintained. On the freezing day that we visited, there was even the biggest log fire you've ever seen, blazing away in one of the huge grates....there were flowers everywhere, and the rooms were so beautifully maintained.
