This is a museum that takes your breath away by its sheer scale and scope. German/Germanic art and artefacts coming from over 2000 years are here, magnificently laid out, but overwhelming in number. We spent 2 hours, and barely cherry-picked the collection. You need to have a good idea of what you want to see before you start, in order...

This museum was so much more than I expected. My friends and I spend about 3 hours in there and we did NOT see everything. Please budget several hours if you are really interested in art. You won't be sorry
I've never been in a museum where, when I ask where something is, no one can tell me how to get to it, but will lead me through corridors, rooms, up and down staircases, etc. to reach it. Perhaps if you have half a day to wander around aimlessly, this is a good museum. I was focused on early settlements...

I was only in Nuremberg for 1 afternoon and 1 night, so I went into the museum an hour and a half before closing thinking that this would be enough time. Boy, was I wrong. There is so much to see there that I could have easily burned at least 4 more hours in there. They have an amazing amount...

My husband and I made the mistake of only giving ourselves 1.5 hours to visit this museum. We had no idea how massive it was! It has something for everyone - prehistoric artifacts, religious relics, art, clothing, recreations of rural life in Germany, musical instruments, children's toys, surgical instruments... I could go on and on. Give yourself at least 3...

We went here for a special exhibit about Albrecht Duerer, but there is always plenty to see and do. The tour guides are excellent and are available, for a fee, in many languages. There are also audio guides, so you can enjoy the museum on your own. Exhibits range form the pre-historic to the modern day, so there is something...

This museum is totally worth a stop if you love renaissance art and culture, as well as per-historic and medieval artifacts! While all the main exhibitions were in both German and English and beautifully displayed with historical significance. The side wing with music, fashion and household artifacts were some of my favorites, but were only in German and not presented...

there are english language museumtours as well and the advantage is these tours are with less people. so if you speak german but would prefer more information with less people (and for 2 hours) I strongly recommend a tour guided by an american lady
The German National Museum in Nurnberg has an extensive collection of art and artifacts spanning many centuries, almost all specifically linked to the German experience.
There are paintings including a superb German Impressionist depiction of military drummers. There is armor for a host of knights. There is a musical instrument collection that spans the centuries, displays clarinets, oboes, guitars, strings,...
