This relic of the roman era is certainly impressive! That such a large structure is still standing and we are able to visit is incredible! I have a phobia of heights so I was only able to walk to the first floor (there are three). Although I only walked up one flight the views were good, and the building was... More

This is an old Roman gate worth visiting. At the moment they have a lot of Marx statues surrounding the area and you can buy some little statues in a shop close by. Trier is a really interesting place to stop by when you happen to be in the area. Do not travel there on purpose cause it is not... More

If visiting trier make a stop at this Roman Gate from the 200s. You can actually go up on the higher levels and see out. Really neat.

It is very interesting and amazing to ready about the history of this gate, that survived the times because it was turned into a church.

Trier is a beautiful little town and Porta Nigra is its greatest landmark. It is worth a visit but it is not the place to be in all day. A couple of hours is enough to visit most of Trier, take some pictures and head off to somewhere else.

Porta Nigra is the biggest tourist attraction in the oldest city of Germany, Trier. Built in 2nd century as one of the 4 Roman city gates, its amazing how it has survived so far and still offers great glimpses into the history. The carvings are still intact and will be a wonder for anyone with historical interests. It is also... More

The idea of how long this "gate" has been standing is fascinating, if you like history, like I do, please visit Trier. Once you walk down the streets (I recommend a local tour guide) so they may inform of you of the significance of the buildings, statues, and fountains. Everything seems to have a significance and it was worth having... More

Incredible experience to finally get to see this great structure. See it not only from the outside but also pay for the visit inside. The porta is huge and powerful and rather well preserved structure. You will see the remains of the structures of a baroque church inside. The visit to the Porta Nigra is likely to be the highlight... More

It's an old archway. Impressive structure but not an awful lot to it. Some restoration work was in progress when I visited.
