The building itself is very unique. The ground floor is supported by 43 columns. Each of the column has its own design which is rather pretty. The roof is a swimming pool, 2nd level is a library which is very nice. Entrance fee is free I would strongly recommend this place if you are visiting Bilbao.

It was raining, so we needed a roof, but it is so much more. Further open spaces enclosed by bars and shops at the ground floor with decorated pillars supporting the library and educational spaces above. We went to the basement for the free exhibition of new Italian Designers-good to take time out to broaden a few horizons.

This is worth a visit just to see what they've done with the place. The basement has exposition halls and a movie theater. The ground floor is just a stunning open space. Stunning place if you like architecture and design. The outside is completely different from the inside but has interesting architectural features. the columns, swimming pool, shops and signage etc. Downstairs is an exhibition space and cinema.

We alked past here and it looked imperssive from the outside and once inside but there wasnt much to see when we got there- maybe we missed sonmething along the way.

What is stunning about the Alhondiga Bilbao... the 43 individual columns designed by Philip Starck. During the day there is a vast, quiet atmosphere, apparently it is more lively during the evening, when the bars and restaurants are open. There is a funky design museum downstairs, where the modern exhibits are moved around on a conveyor belt.
