This place takes you back in time! We saw the windmills during the day but also stayed to see the sunset and at night! Stunning! The only thing we hated was the heavy winds on the day we were there, with off and on thunderstorms, but it did give a unique look to the windmills!

On an incredibly windy April day we were very nearly the only people at this amazing place to see windmills. We had previously been to Campo de Criptana to see the windmills there, but these are in a much wilder location and much better. We walked all over the site and took some great photographs. The views from the highest... More

For me, it was the windmills. They catch your eye perched up above Consuegra, you can see them from miles away. There are many tour buses that come & go really quickly, people pile out at the very top, quick photo and away they go. We took the long route, hiking up slowly past all twelve windmills, then sitting at... More

If you are visiting southern Spain, make sure you check out the windmills in Consuegra. Also, make sure you have read Don Quixote first! You'll have to make your way to the very top of the very small town of Consuegra. Once you reach the top there will be a line of windmills and a beautiful view of La Mancha.... More

Thanks to reviews by other TA users, we made the detour to follow the footsteps of Don Quixote and visit the amazingly beautiful windmills at Consuegra - so glad we did as they exude a stately beauty, overlooking miles and miles of open countryside. We had perfect winter blue skies and the brilliant white of the buildings and the black... More

Consuegra is between Toledo and Madrid. Well, it can be if you take the time to do the detour. It's extremely well worth it. We arrived on a crisp clear autumn morning and were amongst a handful of people. There are so many words that come to mind...majestic, silent sentinels, Quixote etc. So many others have described it that all... More

The town itself is small and quiet, almost deserted. But the windmills themselves are a sight to behold. Yes, it is exactly what you have imagined in the book itself. The path to the windmills are situated behind the town itself and you will drive uphill to a deserted paved road straight to the windmills themselves.

we put on almost 1900 kilometers in a week, in part 'tilting at windmills' . we looked up where we'd seen these the first time 13 years ago and 'detoured' (a LOT) to go see them with a digital camera this time. it was a splendidly clear autumn day and these stately agricultural 'work horses' still stand as they would... We took a bus trip to Consuegra on our recent trip toToledo. It was a lovely sunny day, and, although the bus takes several detours on its one-and-a-half-hour journey, it was worth it. The small town is really quiet - almost eerily so - and we hardly saw a soul until the schools came out! Difficult to find a cafe/bar... More

Don't miss those wind-mills, which looks exactly like in Cervantes time. You feel as time stopped for centuries there.
