It was quieter to visit with less tourists, masses were conducted regularly, it is absolutely beautiful, and its the popes church as bishop of Rome. Bronze doors on the front were brought from the Forum. Constantine had the basilica built. St. Peter and Paul relics are there. So much to see and easy to get around.

Ok, ignore my previous review... this is the most impressive church, after the vatican. Unreal ceiling, paintings and huge, huge statues right down the middle. A must see!

This was a beautiful cathedral, lavishly decorated, an impressive and inspiring place to visit. The mosaic floors containintricate patterns, the golden ceiling is beautiful. The ciborium over the altar is a work of art in itself.

Very beautifull cathedral inside and also you can find here great silvered sacred pictures (icons) of Jesus! I advice this place to all who goes to Rome at vacations!

San Giovanni in Laterano is the Bishop of Rome's cathedral and therefore the mother church of all Christianity. San Giovanni is magnificent in its beauty and importance, and it is much less overrun than St. Peter's. A good time for silence and prayer. Don't forget to visit the Scala Santa (Holy Steps) across the street.

For Christians this a must-see pilgrim church with relics that include the heads of Saints Peter and Paul; the Holy Umbilical Cord; and wood from the table used during the Last Supper and in an adjacant building, the Holy Stairs (Scala Santa) which were taken from the palace of Pontius Pilate where Jesus walked on the way to be crucified...
