Be aware there are a lot of stairs (498) but once at the top you a rewarded by fine view of this splendid city.
It costs 3 euros and quite a bit of effort to climb the tower.
You don't have to be in great shape to climb the 498 steps as long as you go slowly and rest along the way.
You can see the entire city from the top, making the climb worthwhile.

There used to be dozens of towers like that in Bologna in the 16th century. Families did use to go on massive ego trips in those days! It's more spectacular than the towers in Dubai but the maintenance isn't as good and the church behind is in bad shape. I hope they'll renovate it.
Made it to the top and was rewarded with the incredible sights of Bologna. This tower was one of the "take my breath away" stops of my trip, and not because of the climb. very interesting building. my step counter counted approx 1200 steps both ways. the event was easier than expected. the view is of course great from the top. recommended

Take it slowly, and the climb is easy. At the top, the views are magnificent, especially on a clear day (our visit...

Torre Degli Assinelli only 3 euro for a doable stair climb to the top. Take pictures in some of the holes in the tower. Then grab a ton I shots of the city from above.
480+ steps but great views. Stairs are a little narrow & steep but just take your time & you will get there, eventually.
Great views from the top and shared experiences with fellow visitors about the number of steps. You have to be fit enough to tackle the stairs.
The highest remaining tower in Bologna, the Asinelli has stood for around 900 years. Tilting gently next to its wildly leaning neighbour, the Garisenda, the Asinelli is worth ascending. The 3 euros fee is a bargain and the darkened stairwells made up of 480 steps in wood and stone provide a conspicuous sense of adventure. The view at the top...
