OK, the basilica with its four churches is really worth visiting but the little square itself is the most perfect place in Bolgna to have a drink. Very special atmosphere in gorgeous surroundings, i.e. some of the most beautiful Palazzi in Bologna.

Seven churches into one. Unique. Crossing a nice arcade with nice little shops end up in front of the church. Make sure to check the hours they are open, it closes at noon for a few hours.

If you visit Bologna don’t miss this one! Though it has a single name, in fact three very old and charming churches are covered. Especially the octogonal San Sepolcro is impressive. The even older S. Vitale was closed for restoration. But the courtyard and the cloister are extremely well preserved and intimate. The square in front of the compex is... More

Always something extra to discover here as it is 7 churches all on the same site. Buy a guide book and it illuminates things you would not normally see. The old architecture is stunning as is the tranquility of the buildings. The opening hours are bit limited so check to make sure it is open, but it is a great... More

The initial impression when entering through the main door is a little underwhelming, but when you go further, through the door at the bottom of the steps on the left, you enter another world - full of history and charming old features, especially the brick designs in the walls of the cloister. S. Stefano is well worth visiting. It offers... More

This site of eight churches is unique and very historic, it is run by the monks and there is no charge for entry, we bought books in the little shop to help their economy. Fascinating history dating back to Roman times and a very unusual room as a memorial to fallen soldiers, airmen and sailors of recent times.

The oldest place of worship in Bologna. This evocative cluster of ancient churches provides a solemn sense of simple sanctity. Originally comprised of seven churches clustered together now as four - this is conspicuously, a moody and spell-binding place. The darkened stone pulpit and cuppola in one of the church nodes is particularly moving. One may slip all so easily into... More

It's an interesting collection of mini churches within one area. The carved pulpit is exquisite. Worth a visit.

This is really a set of church buildings leading one from another. The first church has a (really) high altar but over a peaceful and much older crypt. This leads on to an ancient 12 sided brick built chapel, worth the visit alone. From there you can wander through a series of cloisters and into various chapels, including one full... More

This church is a must see for any trip to Bologna. It is a classic example of a beautiful Italian church built with love, respect and lots of care. Actually a complex of many churches, it seems to comprise every element one would look for in church architecture in Europe. Just be sure to take your time and explore all... More
