Beautiful location , plenty of restaurants , quite hilly . We didn't bother to take a boat to the island since Orta town was charming enough.

Lake Orta is the smallest of the major lakes in the Italian Lakes district. It's also among the prettiest, with a gorgeous island in the middle that you can explore. The town is fascinating, and above it is a UNESCO world heritage site, the Monte Sacra di San Rocco. This is a very special place.

Orta San Giulio is west of Lake Maggiore in Northern Italy not far from Milan. The lake is smaller and much less crowded but very beautiful and more romantic than the other northern Italian lakes.
