Beware, if you take the bus from Alghero, the driver will not commit to saying if the cave is open or not.
This is an amazing experience that should be experienced either via the boat trip, or by walking down the steps yourself. They are not particularly steep and the views are gorgeous....
Comfortable and scenic boat trip along coast to caves, English-speaking guide helped us appreciate the caves to the full. Extraordinary and atmospheric caves.
Don't be put off by the 600+ steps to get to the cave; it's worth every one. As soon as you enter the cave it's like stepping into another world. The guide spoke excellent English and was very well informed. The tours start from the cave (at the bottom of the steps) on the hour so make sure you allow... More
These caves were fantastic, the guide was multilingual, but being at the back of a very large group, ( two boats full) couldn't always hear. But really the caves themselves didn't need explanation. The crossing was choppy, and our feet became wet, but it was a lovely hot day, and everyone enjoyed the experience! The views of the coast line... More
I've been to a number of caves and grottos over the years and this one is well up there with the best: a natural wonder very carefully and beautifully lit . .. and made safe for visitors. The boat trip there doubles as a relaxing viewing of the coast and chance to 'go with the flow'. The landing at the... More
We took the boat over to the Grotto and leaving the harbour, the sea looked very calm. However, once out past the breakwater, it got quite choppy and those on the upper deck were constantly drenched with spray from the waves. Number of people sea sick during the tip over and when we reached the Grotto, it took a number... More
I cant deny that the caves were one of the best places (considering place itself!!!) I visited while staying in Sardinia, loved boat ride (15 Euro, 40min to get there, +13 Euro caves entrance fee) with spectacular views, the caves are amazing like the others say...but...everything was so hasty that I could not enjoy my visit properly, had to follow... Very very nice place to go. One of the "must visit" list! It is better to go early in morning, when there aren't so many people. I guess that during summer time it might be difficult with parking (not so many place to leave a car), bet we were in the middle of October, so it wasn't so big problem.
These caves are well worth a visit while staying in Alghero. The boat trip to the caves was pleasant and didn't take too long. Disembarking at the cave entrance was an interesting experience with the sea being quite rough but it was worth it once inside the caves. Although we hadn't expected to pay again at the entrance to the... More
