We were blown away by this museum. Each different exhibit was imaginatively presented with some really impressive, Harry Potter-like effects (talking portraits etc.). In the model ship section, sliding a moveable video screen to line up with a model allows you to get all the details of the real ship and its history. We could have spent an hour in... More

This place seems great for kids and boating enthusiasts...or a nice trade-off guy/girl attraction with the Bag & Purses museum. It is a bit away from the "center", past NEMO, but easy enough to reach via mass transit or a brisk walk.

This was our second visit to Amsterdam but our first to this Museum. It costs around 15 Euro to get in and the building is divided into four sides north, east, south and west, with a huge glass ceilinged courtyard in the middle. You can go out to the port area where there is a Square rigger sailing ship to go aboard... More

Maybe if we had kids or understood Dutch, we might have enjoyed this museum. The 25 min "Voyages of the Sea" show was a total waste of time. The exhibits on navigational aides, globes, and old photos were well laid out exhibits, but it was a small part of museum. It was a grand old building and we wished there... More

Last on our list, but one of the best museums we visited during our stay in Amsterdam, especially for our 8 &11 year old kids. Multimedia experiences combined with classical exhibitions with an active part to keep kids (and their parents) actively involved. Highlight is of course the VOC ship. Also here, everything to tough and try. We really enjoyed... More

Found this a bit disappointing, really aimed at kids, a lot of wasted space in the building, the replica galleon and the restaurant were the best parts of it.

The Maritime Museum was a great experience for me. The museum is very interactive and entertaining even if you do not have much interest in the material. It is a maritime museum but there is a lot of Amsterdam (and Dutch history in general) history there as well. The globe and navigational section was the most interesting to me but... More

I enjoyed very much the visit to the Maritime museum. I learned some new facts about globe manufacturing, yachts and sea paintings. The place is organized very well and there are a number of worthwhile interactive areas.
