Built in the late 12 century, this Cathedral is full of history. It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It's the largest of the medieval cathedrals in Portugal, and one of its best examples of Gothic architecture. We made many photos inside the Cathedral, even though there wasn't enough light. We enjoyed looking at the beauty of... More

Tip: You should have lunch in Sabores de Monsaraz (check my review and pics). Beautiful village. Amazing handicrafts. Pros: well preserved, very old and beautiful architecture.

The Cathderal is lovely, but the women guarding the front door are vicious. Don't step out of line! The Cloisters roof - accessed via ancient stone, spiral stairs - is well worth a visit, especially on a sunny day.

It's worth going to have a look in the cathedral just for the 16th century church organ. There's nothing too special or breathtaking about it, although the cloisters are pretty.

Evora has the place on the map of Europe because of the Temple of Diana, well preserved Roman structure. But near by is the real Gothic cathedral with charm and recent good restoration.

Absolutely worth a visit, and don't forget to visit the cloister and the roof for the best view on the Temple of Diana.

Even though we had very little time to visit Evora, we really enjoyed our brief visit to the cathedral. The cloisters are just stunning and we could get a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside.

This is a small cathedral in a small town. There are better things to see in Evora, including just wandering around the old town, visiting the Temple of Diana (preferably by moonlight), and checking out the eerie Capela dos Ossos.

We did not get inside but the exterior is quite nice. It adds to the overall town medieval spirit and is a great plac eto make some pictures. We met Evora Univercity first grade newcommers where they have a weird ritual and give a tribute to town architecture. If you are lucky to meet this festival in fall, it just... More

Brilliant site - you must go up the stairs to the roof which offers fantastic views of the city and its surrounding countryside. You get a wonderful sense of location here and can see for miles across the plain to other hilltop fort settlements.
