Magnificent site. Unfortunate that other than a large map and description that there is not more information. Maybe in the future. I specifically came to see the theatre on the south slope. It is fenced off because there are current excavations in progress. I followed a path along the side of the fence and got a good view. Did not... More

Very little is left of this once important site and the drive up the mountain's narrow road is not easy. Once there, what you see is what you get-very little to see.

Three unique ancient and medieval eras co-habit in the area, Ancient Cretan, Byzantine, Venetian ruins are all quite impressive. A must to see. Close by a renovated castle remnant of the turkish occupation.

It was a really interesting visit, we like any thing to do archeaology and this place as quite a lot of things to see. It also has stunning views out over the the sea. It takes a while to walk around and it is amazing how many things they have managed to rebuild. There is a small fee at the... More

Excellent range and quality of historical sites in one area. If this was in many other countries, it would be regarded as a national treasure, with a high entry fee and with many areas fenced off from visitors. Here, it was free - and one can wander in, around and over the various achaeological remains, largely untroubled by the sound... More

This is a quite unusual site in that there is an excellent leaflet and very extensive pictorial exhibition and some most impressive remains (especially the Roman cisterns) but no entry charge, no-one on the gate and you just wander around by yourself. Perfect! It is easy to find and a wonderful panoramic view.

Came here on a walk (from the book Crete Walks in the Apokoronas by Geoff Needle). The views are tremendous, the wild flowers and butterflies (in April) were delightful. We were pleasantly surprised by the large number of Greek and Roman ruins at the site and spent a very enjoyable hour wandering around.
