There is a long walk up (lots of stairs :)) from the cathedral square to it's base, but when you're there is nice view on the cathedral square and Helsinki port. It's also beautiful from the inside, but - too much tourists.
It is impossible not to experience the Cathedral when visiting Helsinki. Spend a little time going inside as well, it's worth it. If the weather is nice you can sit and relax on the stairs looking out on the square. It's very nice!

This is not one of your ornate Catholic cathedrals, but a haven of piety, wonderful architecture and beauty. Impressive from the outside and the inside, this is another "must-see" in Helsinki.

True simplicity.Organ looked amazing and would like to hear it during worship service or concert.Crypt worth visiting also and there's disabled access via lift from the crypt.
I am disabled and no effort is made to display the sign for the disabled entrance, irritating. Fortunately I had been guided by another traveler on Trip adviser. The crypt is magnificent one of the best, I've seen. the massive organ is impressive. It didn't move me like the rock church, a personal view not a criticism.
It's a must seen building in the middle of the must seen square. Church is working, in time you can findout praying people there
Loved the different architecture that you don't really see in the new world. Nice domes, very simply decorated inside which made it nice to look at. They also had a nice little Easter egg exhibition down at the krypt which was alright... They had different types of Easter eggs.
