Idyllic little island for a day out, easy access by public transport. The whole island acts as a museum and most old buildings can be visited free of charge. Also features an open-air museum (small fee).

Take bus 24 from Mannerheim Street close to the central station. It takes 20 minutes to go to Seurasaari, or rather to Urhu Kekkonen's home from where you can cross a small bridge to Seurasaari. You only need a ticket if you want to go inside the old houses. It's free to just walk around. We did and we enjoyed... More

There are cottages from all corners of Finland. However the nature is really beautiful in this island. It is connected to the mainland by bridge but it's free to stroll around. Beware of squirrels they snatch anything from you hand if you offer them :)

This cute little island is accessible by footbridge, no vehicles allowed. On the island you will find many scenic trails with historic buildings imported from around Finland to respresent a typical fishing village from earlier times. To gain access to the inside of several of the buildings, a small fee must be paid, but if you want to just admire... More

Oh yes, Where the midsummer celebration of Juhannus is celebrations with bonfires, and an explosion of dance and song.

This is a treasure of an island. With the museum and the numerous trails. Be prepared for slippery conditions in the winter if you go beyond the museum, and it can be muddy in the early spring and late fall. The island is multi use, so a lot of the local residents use it for swimming (including during the winter),... More

This is the happiest I have ever felt when I visited Seuasaari Island, it is simply stunning. All facilities were closes apart from toilets, there was deep snow everywhere, it was very quiet and peaceful. I walked, about 4km from Helsinki. There is a bus - No: 24, but you would miss so much on the way. If santa lives... More

Great place to learn about the history of the rural Finland without leaving the city. You can see a lot of wooden buildings and craftsmen who presents their historic profession. On midsummer eve there are a lot of dancing groups, playground for children and traditional ceremonies. This is the perfect place to get a glimpse of finish culture, try it!

A tranquil place where squirrels and ducks run and fly around. Walk around the island and look at the nature and the historical buildings. The quietness is very romantic and nice - and only a couple of kilometers away from the city. Best to visit during summer or on a no-wind sunny winter day.

An open air museum is part of the Seurasaari island but the island, connected to mainland with lovely bridge, good for walks, swimming and just to enjoy a break of the city.
