Very interesting film about the IOM. Helped us decide on things we wanted to see especially geological features, natural history and ancient crosses and gravestones. Very interesting displays. never seen so many Viking coins. We had lovley home made soup in the little cafe too. Will return as we reached saturation point. Definitely worth a second trip.

This is a fantastic museum which provides much information on the Islands' history and character. The building itself has been renovated - making it a very comfortable environment to enjoy (all ages catered for). On a wet/windy/cold day, its the perfect haven and the coffee/snack shop (reminders of Charles Rennie Macintosh styling) sells well-priced snacks and meals to accommodate all... More

We made the most of the free half day before flying back to the mainland by visiting this gem of a museum which is set high above the the Douglas promenade and is accessed by a footbridge overlooking the resort. There are many interesting facets to this place including a section on the TT races , a great transport section... More

A very good museum for a general history of the Island, and also for family history as you get free access to the records, and the i-museum. The staff were very helpful, and there is convenient parking for the museum with a multi-storey car park joining onto it. There is also a cafe and shop within the museum.

This museum houses a fine collection of artifacts from pre-historic times through the Viking era, the Civil War and the First & Second World Wars when the Island housed many internees. It also houses the Manx art Collection. Through out the year it holds special exhibitions ie during TT.

As others have said, this is somewhat tricky to find and involves either a walk up a steep hill, or going up in the car park lift to the 9th floor above Iceland! (even then there is a hill and steps.) The museum is nicely set out and there is also an art gallery. This would be a good starting... More

Brilliant. A must for visitors. Follow signs to car park in Douglas. Tricky if naughty people have switched the signs around. Definately not to be missed. Exceptional exhibition. A credit to the Island.

A nice well laid out museum but set in an hilly part of Douglas and once inside has many stairs, worth a visit if you are fit!
