The cafe opened in 1904 and still has period decor. However, in nice weather one must sit outside and enjoy the Piazza which is very lovely. Be sure to try the traditional fried olives stuffed with meat which are delicious.

i have been going to ascoli on and off for many years and when in the peoples square, i always go to cafe meletti, 1st class service and food, it is like going back in time when good service and good manners were common.
Ok go for your one drink to say you drank where Hemingway drank...but that's about it. Drinks were super overpriced and waiters have attitude. We walked in looked to be seated and we were ignored, so we ordered from the bar. When we saw a table open up we asked to sit (and of course we paid the premium to...

A part of the history of Ascoli, owned for years by the Meleti family now owned by the casa di risparmio, savings bank.Famous for their own made Anisetta Meletti, aniseed flavoured drink similar to Sambuca.Sit outside and watch the folk chatting and taking a stroll up and down The Pizza del Popolo,a must visit for a quick coffee when visiting Ascoli Piceno.
This very well renowned cafe offers the traveller a glimse of the past. The waiters all wear white jackets and the service is delightful
it is a historical cafe right in the middle of the town in Piazza del Popolo. The interior is carefully maintained close to the original set-up. Therefore it makes quite an impression. Specific to the place is the Anisetta - an anise based alcoholic drink that works well with coffee. The service might not seem overly polite and it is...

I visited Cafe Meletti a number of times during a recent stay in Ascoli Piceno. Although the cafe itself is truly beautiful with fanstatic architecture and decor I think that the overall experience is let down by the staff who, although smartly dressed appear disorganised and are unfriendly. The menu itself is limited - to stale appertivos with alcholic drinks...

Great building and location, fascinating interior- including the toilets- and impeccable service by smartly dressed staff. But at the end of the day it is just a cafe!
Classic place, feel the atmosphere and enjoy a coffee
Retro styling, cozy feel, and professionally dressed and mannered staff. The neoclassical interior and exterior is composed of many beautiful arches and and pictorial motifs. People come for the anisette but stay for the pastries. Definitely a quick and well rewarded stop while in Ascoli Piceno.
