A great insight into the past in this beautifully restored tower house. Plenty of informative displays. A friendly welcome and a welcome cup of tea and cakes. Nothing to dislike!

We love this castle! I think one of the reasons is that we stay close to it (it's just up the road from the Oughterard Golf Club) and we walk there. It's always just so peaceful. If you're looking for a large grand castle, this isn't for you. Aughnanure Castle is located on a meandering brook (used to be a... More

Aughnanure Castle is set in the most rural landscape creating an authentic atmosphere for tourists. Booklets and boards are very informative. You are free to roam the castle and the grounds at your own pace allowing you to spend as much time as you like enjoying this atmospheric attraction!

The story of the O'Flaherty's was fascinating. What a fierce group! The castle is well kept, and you are allowed to wander it and its grounds on your own. The signs are very informative. We enjoyed visiting a not so touristy place, and we learned so much!

The Castle is nice and small. It is located on the way to Kylemore castle..this castle is part of OPW Office of Public works. If you purchase their membership for 1 year it does cost 21 Euro but it is well worth it. With the membership you can enter this castle and more than 60 other historic places for free.... More

We stopped at Aughnanure Castle on our way to Kylemore Abbey. The castle is easy to find and is in a nice, uncrowded location. The tour is unguided, but there are plenty of signs around to guide you through each room and tell you the history of the castle and the O'Flaherty's. It's very neat and has a no frills... More

We had a pleasant visit to Aughnanure Castle on our way to visit relatives. The castle is very easy to find. The girl at the welcome desk where we paid a small fee was so extremely helpful when we needed directions. The castle itself is very well described on the signage inside. There is a pamphlet to help you with... More

Castles seem to be a dime a dozen in Ireland but each is still great in it's own way. This castle tour is unguided but information throughout the tour is very informative. The castle itself is very well preserved and really allows the visitor to visual what life would have been like.

Worth visiting,if you're passing, or a castle aficionado, or both:) It was quiet when we were there, and we found it to be quite a charming castle in a picturesque location.

Its underadvertised and off the beaten track but well worth stopping for.The atmosphere is laid back and the staff very friendly. You can drive to it or, for the more adventurous, go by kayak or small boat from the lake as it has a mini harbour. The entrance fee is very reasonable and included is a guided tour if desired....
