As you enter the place you will see that the place is quite small. But under-ground its very large. The stalactite is huge. As per the guide its the largest stalactite by volume in the world. The guide was excellent. The way he explained the each and every miniscule details was absorbing. The caves are of clay so there is... More

After speaking to the locals ( actually they were from Galway) , my mother and I learned this was a must-see. So we checked it out yesterday at the 5 pm tour. Though the stalactite was impressive, our guide really made the experience worthwhile. (I believe his name was Kevin.) It is great to have a guide with a passion... More

We are delighted you enjoyed your trip to Doolin Cave and pass on our regards to your Galway friend for their recommendation. Kevin is thrilled with your kind comments. He just passed his final exams in geology at NUI Galway last week. Thanks, Helen More

Opened relatively recently, so it has to compete with Ailwee Caves just up the road. But the two caves offer different things, so I would recommend seeing both if you can. The Doolin Cave visit requires a reasonable level of fitness, as the 120+ steps down to the cave have to be climbed again to get back out!. But it's... More

Thank you for the great review of Doolin Cave, we are delighted that you enjoyed the visit. We are working on updating the craft shop at the moment and we have some fabulous handmade pottery, made using clay from deep within the cave, for sale. If you visit the area again be sure to pop back in. More

I agree with other reviewers in that this is more suitable for older children and adults. It passes a good hour, has a satisfying wow factor when the guide hits the light switch, and boasts a rather superior cafe. What really set it apart for me though, was the quality of the guide, who was well-informed and easy-going, and communicated... More

Great Stalactite is phenomenal, absolutely astounding, a rare chance to see something that is hundreds of thousands of years old. The journey begins with an 80ft descent into the cave proper after which visitors must don a hard-hat which adds to the sense of rugged adventure and which prevented many a bump on my noggin. Whilst travelling through the cave,... More

My dad told me we had to go here and I'm so glad we did. It was an amazing experience, my favorite cave! You had to wear a hard hat and our tour guide was so knowledgeable. The stalactite was really cool to see. I cant believe its still growing. Everyone we met on our trip, who was going to... More

Great for adults and older children. Compared to most other attractions, reasonable value for money. More importantly, it's not every day you see a stalactite of this size! Whilst a few younger children (under 7s) did visit here, some were frightened in the cave or just uninterested. There's a lot of steps to go down...(and up!) so personally think it's... More

Pro: Nice guided tour Con: Expensive. It was 24 euros for 2 of us. It was the most we spent on an activity and only was about 30 minutes.

Glad you found the tour interesting and the tours last almost an hour. It is on the higher end of visitor attractions as the stalactite is one of the most unique in the world and we have to control and monitor the cave climate at all times in order that we keep this great wonder of nature in pristine condition... A visit to Doolin Cave is a journey deep into the earth to see a spectacular stalactite - one of the longest in the world. A guide leads the way down several staircases and passages, through light and dark, a constant drip of water, slippery surfaces. The guide talks through the discovery of this amazing place, its geology, its development... More

The Doolin Caves are a rare treat, but be prepared to walk. We descended the caves via metal staircase, 8 stories deep (80 feet). There are no elevators. At the bottom of the shaft, visitors gear up with hardhats. The guide walks you through, single file, where you will enter a series of "rooms" culminating with entry into the room... More
