This is a handsome chateau, beautifully maintained, with a great art collection and fabulous grounds.
We loved the architecture of the Chateau and its gardens. Kids really enjoyed the maze and exploring the pathways and bridges. Incredible collection of paintings but for me (my husband disagrees) it was a bit soulless... More like a museum with walls covered in artwork rather than any feeling of having been a home. Would be a great place to... More
Loved the place! Takes one hour from Paris by train but totaly worth the hussle. We walked from train station to the chateau, they have an amazing trail to walk. You can take a bus to except for sundays.
It's like being in Le Louvre. ..so many paintings....from Raphaël. ..Bidot....Velasquez. .and so on. ...historic interest with monumental paintings about historic battles. The castle itself is very pretty with Le Notre gardens.
Chateau de Chantilly was suggested to us by our B&B owner as an alternative to Versailles - no crowds or queues but still beautiful. He was right. And the town of Chantilly was lovely too although we didn't have much time to look around there. But the lady in the Chantilly tourist information centre ( a 2 min walk from... More
Chateau´s setting is magnificent. Art Collection is superb and tasteful. Ponds and gardens also worth a visit. A look into a bygone era
Driving around France we did not expect to come across such a pretty, picturesque castle. What a wonderful surprise! Easily taken away by the beauty and perfection of its surrounding gardens. Chantilly is famous for Creme de Chantilly (whipped cream) so be sure to experience this the little cafe inside the castle. Not much else to do in Chantilly besides... More
We went to Chantilly the day after arriving in Paris! What an absolute wonderful start to our vacation. Our first view of the Chateau was of families on a Sunday afternoon having lunch on the lawn. It just had this real peaceful feel to it. The Chateau is just beautiful and awe inspiring. The inside is equally as lovely and... More
It was great to see a slightly smaller chateau after the excesses of Versailles - at least the gardens were easier to cover and the little maze was fun. Easy to combine with the Musee du Cheval for an interesting day.
What a wonderful couple days...well worth the short trip north of Paris!!! Compared to our day in the Loire...no comparison. This was far more enjoyable. You must meet waiter/host, Johan, in Vatel's restaurant. (Yes, you must see the movie about this chateau, VATEL). Maybe because the weather was threatening rain, there were very few visitors on the first day we... More
