This was one of the highlights of our stay in Merida. If you like Roman history this town is for you. The bridge is in excellent condition and we are glad it is now for walking only so it will stay that way. There had been Major Flooding in the surrounding areas and the water was fairly racing under the... More

We enjoyed our evening walk down the Punto Romano. Make sure you have good walking shoes and water bottle with you. It was nice to see all the people walking on the bridge. The bridge is still an important means of getting across the river to the other part of the city.

it is almost unbeliveble that a bridge has been done 2000 year ago and its perfectly well kept. you have the feeling it is the most 100 y.o., not 2000 walk the bridge, take some pictures, walk on the shore, amire alcazaba.

The Puente Romano to this old City is in great condition and if you start from here, sets the scene beautifully. Merida must be one of the best cities to visit in Spain, the number of splendid Roman ruins dotted around the city, all within a reasonable short walk is remarkable. They are all very well kept and in many... More

Given that the bridge has been extensively renovated over the millennia, it's more the fact of its continued existence that makes it interesting, rather than its appearance. What is a real treat, however, is the varied birdlife to be seen from it on and near the islets dotted across the river. Walking to the far side and back may take... More

we entered Merida on foot over this incredibly well preserved Roman bridge (I can remember when road vehicles used it!) No better way to enter any city. PS: call it 'Puente' and not 'Punto'!

The Punto Romano bridge is the longest Roman one remaining in the world. It was 755 meters long with 62 spans, but now is 721 meters (0.45 miles) with 60 spans. it functions as a pedestrian bridge presently. It is an impressive sight, though I personally don't find it as spectacular or graceful as the Roman bridge at Alcántara that... More

Nice to cross the old bridge to the park and open space on the other side.

This bridge has been here a long time, and the sight of it in the evening sunshine is very moving. Amazing.

I would have enjoyed a stroll over this impressive construction so much more if it hadn't been for the icy wind and rain (April!). A walk around the mid-stream island would also have been nice on a good day. Weather aside, it's well worth seeing and imagining the hoards of traders and travellers pouring into Emerita Augusta.
