The road towards Lake Toba was pretty bumpy from Medan City, not very comfortable drive especially travelling with a 1yr old plus baby. We realised it worth it all after the 3-4hr drive. Stayed in Taman Simalem Resort a night, awesome room with great view, probably the best place to see Lake Toba from a height. Staff are very friendly... More

The journey up and down the lake was a dread to me. There road condition was bad with too many pot holes on the road. Not suitable for family with young children as the journey was too long. View is great and scenic, I would recommend only if you already visited other parts of Indonesia.

I think the best times of Lake Toba especially Tuk Tuk are over. I don t wanna say it s not a nice place but for all things I read before coming here I might have expected to much. Cruising on a scooter is ab out the highlight here and it s really nice. The climate and the air is... More

Nice place to visit. Far away from medan town . About 6 hours drive and is tiring. I stay for a night . Should have stay for another day to enjoy the nice scenery. Cruising the lake and shopping around samosir island is relaxing. Must visit if you are in Medan.

If u r checking this out you hv probably heard great stuff ppl said abt lake toba. So my advice to you is Trust them!!! The ferry ride to samosir is at the top of my travel experiences. Try to catch the last one, departing parapat at 6pm. Catching the sunset on top of a ferry, soaking in the fog... More

It's my first visit to Indonesia. Spent 3 days there and I feel I wanna return again. I went up there with flight so I got the great view of the whole Toba lake and Samosir island from the top. I was very happy to have a chance to see this beautiful view of the place I'm visiting. The community... More

We had a four day trip (Friday - monday). 6 pax, 3 nights booked at Samosir Villa Resorts. It takes 1 hour flight (from Singapore) + 5 hours drive + 1 hour ferry to get to lake toba. The view is gorgeous but due to the recent haze problem in Indonesia in general, it's a little disappointing if you've gone... More

Lake toba,a beautiful place to let your hair down, simply magnificent place and a god sent to the local people there, I really couldnt find words to describe the panoramic views ,according to the guide, two volcanoes erupted and lake toba was 'born' .......just visit this place and you will know for yourself.....superb place

If you want a place to get away from it all, Lake Toba is one of the best place to just sit back, relax and do absolutely nothing! Of course, you could go for a swim in the very clear waters or just dip in the water. The lake is teeming with wild life and you could see many birds... More

Staying on Samosir island was something i will never forget. Surrounded by a fresh water lake the size of belgium, which in the morning doubled as a clean place to take a swim. This island has panoramic views of the mainland from almost everywhere and the higher you go the more you will find. Home to wild horses, monkeys and... More
