We went on New Years Day - bad mistake ....it was like a seal colony of trippers , hardly any sand to see and very noisy ...better to go on a quieter day !!
i enjoyed manly more than bondi sitting on the beach watching the surfers eating the best fish and chips I have ever had was wonderful it was easy to get to on the ferry the town was small but very welcoming and you could spend a far few hours here
This place has everything...hiking the Sydney National Park...overlooking cliffs to the ocean. Watching people surf and play volleyball. Shopping in the little shops; eating great seafood and the best gelatto around.
I took the ferry from circular quay to manly which takes 30 mins. It is a nice cruise passing through the bridge and opera house so you can take good photos. there're many good restaurants around manly beach too. it's a good place to go and enjoy the sea breeze.

Still good for swimming, lovely to walk down - a good variety of cafes and restaurants nearby - parking may be the only issue as it is difficult at times to park near where...

Fortunately I wasn't traveling with my family, but I had walked from the ferry directly to the beach and found a spot, by 1pm, I realized that this prime spot was topless. There is a family friendly spot about a 100 meters down the beach.
