Salamanca is a must see when you visit Hobart, every Saturday the market transforms the whole street into a mass of local produce, during the week the many shops and eateries provide a pleasant place to browse, although the shops tend to sell overpriced goods, this is probably because of the many tourists who disembark the cruise ships here. If there... More

Some nice quality good available in some nicely appointed stores. Look around before you buy The Art of Silver has a good collection. Some stores have staff who don't even acknowledge you when you walk in - we decided not to spend in these places as we consider this rude. Given the economic climate - a hello doesn't go astray... Great place to spend an hour or so browsing local examples of art, photography and design. Very well organised and plenty of different types of art to see. Very reasonable prices and also a couple of great places for a snack or coffee.

Have a wander through the alleys here - pick up a souvenir of your stay, a bottle of Tassie wine and then have a beer in the square.

So much on offer here, a varied and interesting mix of local produce, crafts and quirky things. It was a really good shopping day.

Saturdays is market day in Salamanca Place, Hobart. Lots of lovely handmade arts and crafts. It is a large market set in an area that has many restaurants, cafes and galleries. The design market at MONA on Saturday is lovely too. The schedule for which day it falls on changes with the seasons, so check to make sure you don't... More

It was enjoyable to walk around the centre. We visited A Common Ground store owned by Matt Evans from A Gourmet Farmer on SBS. Good selection of cheese available for tastings. Found some books at the second hand book store. The plaza area is great for kids to run around.
