We took the ferry over and took the track to the top. A not too difficult tramp with some great views of Auckland from the top. The lava caves are really good fun but I would recommend taking a torch!!

Really enjoyed the walk to the summit and the lava caves. I wouldn't say it was an easy walk but ok none the less. Would love to come back and stay there one weekend.

Wear comfortable shoes, take your snacks, hat, sunscreen and water. It is a lovely walk around the island.

My husband and I did the walk to the summit in just over an hour and found it quite tough, especially as we got closer to the top. This is a quick day trip for sure. The ferry out there isn't too long and it's very beautiful - especially if you catch it on a day where there are a lot of sailors out and about. Great views.
