This area is extremely well laid out and signposted. There are explanatory notice boards all through the "park" as well as helpful staff to explain the background of the history of the treaty and its participants. The short film at the start of the visit is very good. As an Australian, it helped me better understand the traditions of the... More

Lovely grounds and fasinating information about Maori culture. We visited on Treaty Day - lots to see and do but get there early.

Northland is the start of NZ and the history from this small beautifull country start here, in the bay of islands. Even if you're not interested in history, you'll love it here.

Waitangi is very important in New Zealand history. Here, a serious attempt was made at a treaty between white British settlers and the Maori tribes. Maybe it was flawed, but it was a genuine effort. The site is now well preserved and explained. There is a very good set of displays explaining what happened, and the key building of the... More

The visit to the grounds is well worth it. Beautiful gardens and features. Besides the comments in the other reviews, which are all relevant, we noticed several unusual birds that must be native to New Zealand in the gardens. Also when leaving the grounds and heading back to the Piahia township you cross a bridge. On the left hand side... More

Waitangi Treaty Grounds is a place all New Zealanders should visit. The information, facilities and staff do us PROUD! We were impressed with the experience and the "connection" it gave us to our history. Well done to everyone involved in making this a world class attraction we can all be proud of.

We were sold the $45 combo on arrival to do the tour and show, it turned out to be well worth it. We started by doing the cultural show, this was at first a little intimidating with the traditional welcome, but once accepted the show and history included is great and good fun. Next we had the tour with one... More

We visited this significant historic area when on a cruise in December last year. From the wharf it was a short and lovely walk over a grassy lawn and abundant trees and plants next to the shore line of the beautiful bays. It was like going back to the 'old days' where everything seemed more gentle and natural. We visited... More
