Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast! « less

This is one of our favourite trips in New Zealand. Great value for money. From the very beginning through to our bus journey home we experienced and learned about Maori history, traditions and culture. The 'hangi' which was our evening meal was lovely, cooked in an underground pit. The entertainment was fantastic and interactive with all guests as I found... More

This was a real highlight of our trip to New Zealand. It's a really authentic and fun experience that gives you an opportunity to see first hand the wonderful Maori culture. It's so well organised and the staff are just exceptional. If you do nothing else in New Zealand, do this!

We found this a very interesting and entertaining evening. We were very lucky with the dry weather (would have been awful in the wet out in the forest for over an hour). The show was excellent and finally we had our meal. We felt this was very late in the evening and would have been better before the show. For... More

Thanks so much to all! We had such a great evening, will definitely be recommending to friends and family! Highlight of my night was my father and my brother attempting to do the Haka - definitely some practice needed there by the men in my family! Thanks so much!

The Tamaki Maori Village won't be to everyone's taste. If you're expecting a genuine Maori village with friendly 'natives', you won't find it here (or anywhere in NZ - this is 2013 and it's a first world country!). You will find entertaining bus drivers, an insight into how Maori lived 200 years ago and a variety of interesting shows from... More
