The Column itself is very fine, but what we liked best were the nice wide stairs we could sit on while we waited for the Free Tour guide... who was excellent, by the way. A history major with a gift for making it fun.

it's a very important monument. there's no Old Town without it, as there is no Old Town without the Old Market or the Palace. The combination is the way to this wonderful place
This ordinary column dominates the Castle square and makes a very good meeting point. The mid 1600's column was already replaced a couple of time, but the statue of Zygmunt the 3rd is original. The column is lit with some dramatic lights at night (until around midnight), but this is it.
To be honest it's very good meeting point for everyone who wants to meet in the central Warsaw. Would be also good start to have a walk in Old Town. Located in the famous Castle sq. easy to find, hard to miss and also many restaurants around, so you won't feel bored.
Seeing Zygmunt's Column, you knew you were in the Castle Square. An impressive column with an interesting story. Do read up on the many statues and monuments before visiting them to have a better understanding of what you are seeing. This particular "Corinthian" column has had many reconstructions however it stays as a main focus in the square.
Kolumna Zygmunta or Sigismund's Column in English is one of the many landmarks in Warsaw one should see. It was erected in 1644, shot down and badly damaged by Germans in 1944 only to be erected again after the war. Statue was restored, however the column was destroyed beyond repair, and replaced.
