This used to be one of the worst areas of DC, but voila! There's been a renaissance and this area has come back big time. Interesting and varied restaurants, clubs, bars and even a place where you can read and hear poetry (Busboy & Poets). Music is a big deal now and you can catch jazz (Bohemian Caverns the best... Visiting U street is to me taking a step into another world. The restaurants are great, lots of soul. I visited U street in the sixties often going to the Bohemian Caverns (Home of The In Crowd-Ramsey Lewis) If you visit DC check out U street. You won't be disappointed.

It's not the best I've ever had but the best for this DMV area for sure. Plus the place has a lot of history so going to check it out isn't a bad thing either.

I didn't rate this highly because visitors to Washington with limited time can find more interesting places to spend their time. This corridor is probably past "up-and-coming".

It is really cool place with many different restaurants and places to hang out! I was a little bit disappointed because some of the places close very early...

To me the attractions are some of the stores, but mainly Ben's Chili Bowl. It's surely worth one visit while you're in DC. And it sure helps that the metro station is right across the street.

The U Street corridor once suffered all the ills of an aging inner city area -- boarded up storefronts, litter, a general sad neglected look. But today's U Street is filled with cool shops, unique restaurants and wine bars, and increasingly more places to live and shop for regular stuff like groceries and home furnishings. The area offers a mix... More

I'm not a big partier but I love U Street for vintage shopping--some great places for lunch, as well as salons and antique furniture.

Nice little area tucked into DC, lots of different restaurants and bars. I have only been here on weekend nights and always have a great time, Oya and El Centro are great places to eat, make sure to make reservations, and Taboq is a really fun bar with a great martini list, there are also some jazz clubs a specialy... What a great place for a late night treat, or lunch, of dinner. I've read that they even serve breakfast! Oh, and they have a stand at National's Park, so you can have it at as baseball game, too! Really, this place is great, the chili dogs, burgers, fries, or half-smokes (personal favorite) are the perfect treat. Milkshakes rock, too.... More
