We were fascinated by the strange looking takins. They looked like they'd been cobbled together from parts of other animals. The enclosure they were in, with some deer, was quite spacious and the setup appeared good. There were some peep holes in the fencing for photos. The view from the preserve down over the Thimphu valley was lovely. You probably... More

Takin- the national animal of Bhutan is been kept in the preserve. They come close to the fence for food and a visitor can observe them there.

My wife and I visited Bhutan In May 2013. Because my wife and I are animal lovers (we spent a week and one half of this trip in India at Kanha and Bandhavgarh searching for the tiger) this place was a real treat for us. The Takin is Bhutan's National animal and we were stoked to see it up close.... More

Bhutan is all about the travel than the destination. So this hold good for Motithang as well. Few captivated takins and barking deers but if you are nature enthusiast, get your binoculars to spot various species of birds. also collect unique foliage from this region for your dry collection (if at all u can identify!)

In my ignorance, I had never previously heard of Takin. Our tour guide explained the legend of the Takin and the Divine Mad Monk, which is also provided on a painted information board at the preserve. It is an excellent legend! The walking is a little bumpy underfoot but we didn't have to go far before we saw two separate... More

Don't know how to rate this , as many people said where else could you get to see this rare creature live ? The park is quite far from the town center and you would need a taxi or vehicle to reach other , unless you plan to spend time walking to the place. Strangely either the local term for... More

As an animal lover, I was impressed with this strange species who seem to be very social. Watching the babies playing with each other and nursing was very special.

The animals are kept in good sized meadow and woodland enclosures, which is better for them, but does make seeing them a little harder. Bring a long lens, don't forget to manually focus to avoid auto focus on the fence, and wait. Although as a conscientious traveller you would NEVER feed the takin, if you wait long enough along will... More

A bit out of the way to get to - but a taxi can take you up easily. I went in the morning - was told that was when the takin were around - having just been fed. And they were. It is not a zoo. It is not a park. It is....a ...fence in front of land. Hey -when... More
