The National Revolutionary Martyrs' Shrine (國民革命忠烈祠) in Taipei’s Zhongshan district is dedicated to the war dead of the Taiwan. It’s a place of great respect for the fallen soldiers of ROC conflicts (soldiers killed in the service of their country during the War of Resistance against Japan and the subsequent Civil War). The whole interest and engagement lies with the... More

Not as impressive as Chiang Kai-Shek's memorial hall, but worth a visit in itself. Here, as at the CKS memorial hall, make sure you visit during a changing of the guards.

Tourist usually visit this place for the change of guards parade which happens once every hour. This place is nothing more than war memorial. It houses tablets of those who have sacrificed during the 1911 revolution and the civil war.

We arrived too late for the guard change unfortunately. We heard that we missed something. But the shrine in itself worth the ride, buildings and gardens are beautiful.

Quite nice to see the gardens and memorial. The changing of the quaff on the hour provides good spectacle, and the tourist facilities are clean and freely available. Large tour groups are perhaps a bit annoying, talking loudly is quite common, but this is probably a cultural difference.

I just had go back in our own time so that we could take the time to appreciate all that was on show. There are crowds but all were very courteous to us and explained anything that we did not understand. This was a wonderful feature of our whole trip, how helpful and interested the locals were to make our experience... More

This was my first time to watch the changing of guards. And the experience was nice. The guards/ soldiers were really very serious. They were not allowed to blink their eyes and do any movements not designed within their routine. As we heard from our guide, tourists were allowed to have close look at the guards and even to take... More

The changing of the guard at this shrine was very moving. The Navy guards moved with exquisite precision and stood guard with out moving a hair. The grounds were impressive and gardens well tended. My husband, retired US Army was very moved. The only distraction was the hordes of on-lookers who pressed forward onto the parade ground and did not... More

Watching the change of guards in the Shrine is interesting. The guards have been trained and disciplined that they DO NOT blink their eyes at all. Every movement was robotic and precise. Must see.
