Because of their precipitous nature, most of the islands are uninhabited and unaffected by a human presence. The site's outstanding scenic beauty is complemented by its great biological interest. The outstanding value of the property is centered around the drowned limestone karst landforms, displaying spectacular pillars with a variety of coastal erosional features such as arches and caves which form a majestic natural scenery. The repeated regression and transgression of the sea on the limestone karst over geological time has produced a mature landscape of clusters of conical peaks and isolated towers which were modified by sea invasion, adding an extra elemant to the process of lateral undercutting of the limstone towers and islands. « less

Sadly this 7th wonder of nature or whatever they are referring to it as had already become a victim if its own success Do not come expecting peace, tranquility, pure clean water to swim in or with any idea that your boat will be the only one as you will be very disappointed Be prepared for a hellish four journey... We recently did a 1 night Bhaya cruise on their classic1 junk for our ruby wedding anniversary. What a wonderful time we had , we both felt that it exceeded our expectations. The boat was gorgeous, very elegant inside our cabin fantastic - we had an upgraded suite with private deck and great bathroom. It was heaven lying in bed... More

The boats are a bit rickety, part of what makes them memeorable, and the food is suspect , dishes are washed (rinsed) in sea water off the back of the boat usually, ugh!! But if you are willing to get into the spirit of it, its all good- and the views are truly unbelievable.

What can we say about Halong Bay that hasn't already been said ? It certainly is a worthwhile participant in World Heritage listing. Lets hope they can keep it that way. The boat was adequate and the rooms appropriate for the 2 day/1 night tour. The number 18 is just about right for the boat. Keeping out of the way of... More

Ha Long Bay is gorgeous, with large limestone mounds, covered in tropical forest, rising out of the warm blue water. However, our cruise company wasn't what we were promised. We had heard the advice to be careful what group you traveled with, so we decided to choose a more expensive one recommended by the hotel, even though we are a... More

This is a truly amazing place! We had a private beech for about thirty of us I'd guess. The water is so warm! I stayed in there for hours. The worst part was that there are so many boats and they all leave at the same time! Then they all arrive at the cave at the same time so it... More

Halong Bay is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen - and I saw it on a cloudy day! We went with APTtravel on the Superior Dragon Cruise and everything went smoothly. We had such a wonderful experience and will DEFINITELY be back to book with the same company but hopefully for a longer cruise time!

The Halong Bay cruise was definetly one of the highlights of our holiday in Vietnam and Cambodia. The scenery was just stunning and overall it was a very relaxing and enjoyable couple of days. We had booked the Emotion cruise, which unfortunately was not one of the lovely-looking tradional junks but was instead a large and modern.boat, but this had... More

UNESCO-listed Ha Long Bay is definitely something to marvel at but the cruise tour (which i simply cannot remember what is the name of the tour agency) we took is definitely not worth what we paid for. We initially paid for a 1 day trip to Ha Long Bay for $22, planning to drop off at Cat Ba island and... More

If you are thinking of doing the Halong Bay thing go no further than a private car there and back and get on board an Au Co boat for 2 days and nights of beautiful scenery, great food, friendly staff and luxurious cabins. Even the basic cabins are good, however, we were given an upgrade and really appreciated the extra... More
