All areas in the old town are fanatastic, try and get there early to miss excursions queues, the blue mosque opens at 0830.

My sister and I spent 6 days (5 nights) in Istanbul in June 2013. Time was just enough to see a lot, but not everything, so we want to come back and repeat experiance but also explore more. We were exploring city during the day, which was our aim, so we can not say a thing about nightlife. We booked... More

Liked:- the atmosphere, the people, the bazaars, the shopping! Disliked:- the street sellers (gets a little wearing after a while, found saying 'no' in German helped get ride of them). Disturbed by:- the very young children street sellers, who are out all hours, day & night; and who often sleep on the streets or the river bridge.

I first went to Istanbul some 8 years ago with my teenage daughter. This time I took my wife. If you stay in Sultanahmet area (I particularly recommend any hotel on the street Akbiyik Caddesi) then you are within 10-15 minutes walk of 75% of the major sights, plus you're close to the Sultanahmet Tram stop for if you want...
