Take a camera as there are lots to see and do. Great walking around the area - wear comfortable shoes!
Liked:- the atmosphere, the people, the bazaars, the shopping! Disliked:- the street sellers (gets a little wearing after a while, found saying 'no' in German helped get ride of them). Disturbed by:- the very young children street sellers, who are out all hours, day & night; and who often sleep on the streets or the river bridge.

Most of the historical places are nearby like blue mosque ,hagia sopia ,grand bazaar..you can do at your own no need to take group tours.
We saw so much and learned a lot too. no problem with protests going on during the time of our stay.
