I know it sounds strange, but this place reminded me so much of old Paris, with its laneways, gorgeous shuttered-windowed apartments, cafes and old-world charm. Zamalek was what I enjoyed most about Cairo. Stolling through its streets, its trees (absent from most of Cairo) and sampling the locally made cakes with a turkish coffee, made Zamalek and oasis of calm... More

Zamalek is the central area of Cairo. Nice places to hangout: to smoke shisha/narguila, cafes, restaurants.... and also the sight of Nile River

Zamalek is different. Here you find the well protected embassys, but also great galleries, boutiques, good restaurants and cafes. Just try SOFI's bookstore ... one of the best places on earth!

Unfortunately not many visitors to Egypt get a chance to visit the island unless of course their hotel is located there. The Island is green, with gorgeous Art Deco buildings everywhere, Embassies, and Ambassadors homes are located there. Great café, Diwan bookstore on 26th July street is there, Maison Thomas, La Bodega, the Marriott hotel with its fantastic garden is... More

I've been staying in small hotels in Zamalek during my last visits. The area is very pleasant, totally safe - and has lots of interesting shops. Plus: the prices you pay for silverware (or other goodies) are the same as those you get at Khan-el-Khalili (but here only with much haggling...!).

I have friends who live in this area so met them 3 times for dinner. Really liked East Bank restaurant along the Nile. Diwan is great for coffee and English books.

and definitely to be sought after! There is nothing like knowing and feeling and being in the middle of the magnicificant river Nile; the longest river in the world, in competition with nothing less than the amazing Amazon river. I would definitely recommend visiting zamalek if only to experience the Nile, that river that started it all, the great Egyptian... More

Zamalek is a fascinating combination of Old-World elegance and tree-lined exclusivity and high-end Cairene living. I had the chance to visit a number of shops in the district (I'd definitely recommend the free-trade Egypt shop foe quality 'souvenirs') and I would recommend discerning travelers do the same. Cairo is, with out question, a city that every one should have the... More

It's one of the best places in Cairo for a collection of restaurants. It's a very cool district of Cairo, lots of young expats living there, it has a few nice bars as well. If you're visiting Cairo definitely worth a visit for a quick bite.
